About the Role

Position Summary

The Chief Operating Officer will be responsible for building and overseeing the end-to-end operating architecture of the AMC across fund operations, scheme servicing, trade lifecycle, fund accounting oversight, investor servicing interfaces, control design, operational risk, and readiness for scale. The role is expected to combine execution discipline with strong regulatory orientation. Under the risk management framework for mutual funds, operational risk is expected to sit with the COO or an equivalent functionary responsible for the relevant functions, while the AMC’s overall risk management structure must remain properly demarcated from the CRO function.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish and supervise the operating model for all scheme and AMC activities including trade capture, settlement oversight, fund accounting coordination, NAV support processes, reconciliations, investor transaction processing support, and service-provider governance.

• Oversee identification, allocation and appropriation of expenses to schemes and ensure that scheme-related expenses are charged strictly within regulatory limits and are properly recorded and auditable.

• Ensure maintenance of proper books of account, operational records and documents for each scheme, and readiness for audit, trustee review, and SEBI inspection.

• Oversee reconciliations of investments, including government securities reconciliation processes and related control reporting where applicable.

• Supervise operational relationships with RTA, custodian, fund accountant, collecting bankers and other critical service providers identified in the mutual fund disclosure framework.

• Drive process standardisation, maker-checker controls, exception management, escalation protocols, and business continuity of critical operational processes.

• Work closely with Compliance, Risk, Fund Management, Finance, Technology and Trustees to ensure that the AMC’s operational framework remains robust, scalable and inspection-ready.

• Support launch readiness for new schemes, including operational mapping, control checklists, service-provider integration, cut-off controls, settlement workflows, and disclosure support.

• Ensure scheme-wise segregation and ring-fencing of assets and liabilities, and proper segregation of scheme-wise bank accounts and securities accounts, as specifically expected in the operations-related compliance framework.

• Lead operational risk governance, with clear ownership of incidents, root-cause analysis, corrective actions and control enhancement.

Preferred Profile

• Chartered Accountant / Company Secretary /Cost Accountant/ equivalent professional qualification.

• 10–15 years of relevant experience in mutual fund operations, fund accounting oversight, transfer agency/custody interfaces, or AMC platform build-out.

• Strong understanding of complete mutual fund operations, NAV controls, reconciliation architecture, service-provider oversight and regulatory inspections.

• Calm execution style, high control orientation, and ability to build operations for a growing AMC without over-engineering.
