CAI Software is organized into three business units - Graphic Communications, Process Manufacturing, and Discrete Manufacturing – aligned to the markets we serve. This structure allows our teams to stay close to customer needs while operating with the scale and support of a global software company.

This role is part of our Process Manufacturing business unit, which provides ERP and operational software to manufacturers that transform raw materials into finished goods through formulas, recipes, or batch-driven processes. We work with small to enterprise manufacturers across industries such as food and beverage, bottling, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, chemicals, paint, paper, tile, and supply chain logistics—supporting end-to-end operations from sourcing through production and distribution.

About the Role

The Principal Engineer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for accelerating the migration of legacy logistics and customs platforms to modern, cloud-native architectures while directly building new capabilities required to expand into targeted seafood markets. This role combines deep development expertise with architectural leadership to ensure scalable, compliant, and market-ready solutions.

The Principal Engineer will actively contribute code, lead complex modernization initiatives, and design domain-specific capabilities that enable growth across international seafood trade markets.

What You’ll Do
• Lead hands-on development of backend services using C# / .NET (Core/6/8+).
• Architect and implement migration strategies from legacy systems to modular, cloud-native solutions.
• Design and build RESTful APIs to support seafood export, compliance, and customs workflows.
• Develop new domain capabilities required for targeted seafood markets, including regulatory handling, traceability, and integration with external trade systems.
• Establish scalable Angular (v17+) frontend architecture to support complex logistics workflows.
• Design robust data models using Entity Framework and SQL Server with a focus on auditability and compliance.
• Drive high standards for unit, integration, and automated testing.
• Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate refactoring, documentation, and feature development.
• Partner with Product and commercial leadership to translate seafood market requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers while remaining deeply engaged in solution design and implementation.

What We’re Looking For
• Experience preferred in seafood/food manufacturing or an industry with traceability and complex business models

10+ years of software engineering experience with strong hands-on development capability.
• Deep expertise in C# and .NET (Core/6/8+).
• Proven experience designing and implementing REST APIs in enterprise systems.
• Strong Angular (v17+) experience.
• Advanced SQL Server and Entity Framework knowledge.
• Experience leading and executing legacy-to-cloud migration initiatives.
• Experience in logistics, customs, seafood export, or other compliance-driven industries preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to translate new market requirements into scalable technical capabilities.
