Job Description

The WSP Aviation team is seeking an experienced Airfield Engineer to be the Principal Engineer within our Indian office, with the potential to become the GCC Airfield Engineering Team Lead as the team grows and develops. The successful candidate will be the first member of this team and will play a crucial role in its growth and development. The Principal Engineer will be responsible for delivering airfield civil engineering design and maintenance projects through various stages of design from feasibility/ option studies to detailed design and onto construction for various clients both in the UK and overseas.

Responsibilities

The candidate will be required to:
• Act as the design lead for airfield civil engineering projects.
• Take ownership of the successful delivery of projects whilst giving leadership and direction to more junior team members, including planning their work and managing the delivery of multiple technical engineering projects.
• Undertake/ contribute towards technical design reviews to meet the WSP quality management requirements.
• Actively participate in the design and take ownership in providing technical input to the design throughout the full design process.
• Effectively and confidently communicate and coordinate designs with team members, industry associates and Clients.
• Identify and manage design risks, issues and Request for Information (RFIs).
• Support Project Managers by undertaking project progress monitoring and contributing to the development of appropriate project controls, including change management, information management and document control.
• Implement the technical quality requirements, address the project briefly and meet client deadlines.
• Acting as a role model, line manager and mentor for other staff.
• Championing excellent health and safety in design.
• Contribute to the recruitment and growth of the Aviation team in India.
• Leading and undertaking the preparation of technical reports, calculations, drawings and specifications related to the delivery of airfield engineering projects in both the UK and overseas.

The current team is diverse and well respected across the industry therefore the candidate is required to have sound technical abilities to help enhance and grow the team.

The successful candidate will be knowledgeable and experienced in Civil Engineering projects at airports and preferably have a degree in Civil Engineering.

Minimum Requirements
• 05 years of civil infrastructure design experience at airports.
• Civil engineering experience of working on large, technically complex multi-disciplinary airport projects from concept through to detailed design and construction support.
• Experience managing engineering professionals in the delivery of technical aviation projects.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills when providing design information or interacting with team members, industry associates and Clients, regardless of their technical abilities.
• Competent self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritisation of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment to meet the needs of multiple projects and managers.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives both in the UK and India.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
• Experience of international airfield design standards such as ICAO and FAA.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Knowledge and experience of using AutoCAD, Civil 3D and relevant other airfield engineering design software packages such as AviPlan, SkySafe and FAARFIELD is preferable but not essential.

Preferred Qualifications
• Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent relevant qualification
• Chartered or Incorporated Status (MICE, MCIHT or equivalent) or equivalent demonstrable experience

Knowledge and understanding of construction contracts such as NEC 4.
