Director of Data Engineering

Position Overview:

We are seeking a visionary
Director of Data Engineering to lead our data engineering function, driving the design, development, and optimization of scalable data platforms. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic thinking to ensure our data infrastructure supports advanced analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership . Strategy:

• Define and execute the data engineering roadmap aligned with organizational goals.

• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of data engineers.

• Support business objectives by collaborating with business partners to identify opportunities and drive resolution

• partnering with business to define priorities

• Identifying short- and long-term solutions and leading cross functional partnership

• Collaborate with executives, product managers, and data scientists to translate business needs into technical solutions.

• Manage scope, dependencies, and risk using analytics, judgment, and creative problem solving.

• Ability to enhance efficiency, innovation, and overall impact using AI?assisted methodologies within assigned areas of responsibility.

Data Architecture . Infrastructure:

• Design and oversee scalable, secure, and efficient data pipelines and architectures.

• Implement best practices for data governance, quality, and compliance.

• Experienced working on modern cloud-based data platforms (GCP preferred).

Operational Excellence:

• Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of data systems.

• Establish standards for coding, testing, and deployment in data engineering.

• Monitor and optimize data workflows for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Innovation . Collaboration:

• Stay ahead of emerging technologies in big data, streaming, and AI-driven data solutions.

• Partner with analytics and data science teams to enable advanced modeling and insights.

• Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications . Skills:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.

• 15. years of experience in data engineering, with at least 5 years in leadership roles.

• Proven experience in leading and managing large, end to end Data Engineering teams, including strategic planning, execution oversight, and operational excellence.

• Experience with GCP services: Big Query(Must), GCS, Dataflow, and Cloud Composer(Airflow). BigQuery experience is highly preferred.

• Proven expertise in big data technologies (Spark, Kafka, Hadoop) and cloud platforms.

• Demonstrated experience in driving Operational/Engineering Excellence initiatives as well as non-tech initiatives.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills - including negotiation, facilitation, and consensus building skills; ability to influence and persuade, without direct control.

• Strong knowledge of data modeling, ETL processes, and database systems (SQL/NoSQL).

• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and strategic planning skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with real-time data processing and streaming architectures.

• Familiarity with data governance frameworks and regulatory compliance (GDPR, HIPAA).

• Background in supporting AI/ML pipelines and advanced analytics.

• Ability to balance technical depth with business acumen.

• Experience in the Retail domain (Supply Chain experience is a plus)
