Job Description - Chief Risk Officer (CRO)
Location: Mumbai, India
Industry: Large NBFC
Experience: 20+ years in risk management, preferably within Retail assets / housing finance or related financial services
Reports To: CEO
Role Overview:
The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) will be responsible for establishing and leading a robust risk management framework for our housing finance company. This strategic role involves overseeing all aspects of risk, including credit, market, operational, compliance, and regulatory risks. The CRO will work closely with the CEO and Board to develop risk appetite, set policies, and ensure effective implementation of risk mitigation strategies that safeguard the company's assets and reputation while supporting sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk Framework & Governance:
- Develop, implement, and continuously enhance a comprehensive risk management framework aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Define risk appetite and set risk management policies, ensuring alignment with overall corporate strategy.
Risk Identification & Mitigation:
- Lead the identification, assessment, and monitoring of credit, market, operational, compliance, and regulatory risks.
- Implement proactive risk mitigation strategies and oversee regular stress testing and scenario analysis.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines set by RBI, SEBI, and other relevant bodies.
- Prepare and present detailed risk reports and key performance indicators to the Board and senior management.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with various business units, internal audit, and compliance teams to ensure a cohesive approach to risk management.
- Maintain effective relationships with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders.
Team Leadership:
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing risk management team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- CA with professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CFA) preferred.
- Minimum 20 years of experience in risk management, with substantial experience in housing finance or financial services.
- Proven track record in developing and executing risk frameworks and strategies.
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory environments and best practices in risk management.
