About the Role

As a Vice President JAVA Technology Lead in the IBD & GCM Tech Team at Morgan Stanley, you will play a key role in leading high-impact engineering teams, driving strategic initiatives, and ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable solutions using modern Java technologies. Your responsibilities will include partnering with internal clients and senior stakeholders to define requirements, architect systems, and deliver incremental business value through Agile practices. Your leadership will be instrumental in modernizing technology stacks, decommissioning legacy systems, and fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.

Key Responsibilities: - Staff, develop, and lead one or more teams within the department. - Analyze multiple sets of information to create summaries for various stakeholders. - Architect, design, and implement enterprise applications and technical solutions.

  • • Oversee deployment, maintenance, and performance tuning of Java-based systems.

  • • Champion the use of modern technologies in line with the firms technical direction.

  • • Establish and promote SDLC and architecture best practices.

  • • Identify opportunities to automate and remediate recurring issues.

  • • Ensure code quality through rigorous reviews, automated testing, and adherence to best practices.

  • • Manage, mentor, and grow a diverse team of engineers.

  • • Spearhead complex Java projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

  • • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maximize efficiency and stability.

  • • Drive modernization initiatives and oversee the decommissioning of legacy products.

  • • Promote Agile methodologies and DevOps/SRE principles across teams.
  • Qualifications Required: - Bachelors or masters degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.

  • • 15+ years of professional experience in Java backend development.

  • • Minimum 5 years in a leadership role managing development teams.

  • • Advanced knowledge of Java (Java11/Java17), Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and related frameworks.

  • • Strong expertise in object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and API design.

  • • Proficiency in relational databases and exposure to NoSQL databases.

  • • Experience with web technologies and microservices architecture.

  • • Familiarity with DevOps tools, cloud platforms, and version control systems.

  • • Proven track record in driving modernization initiatives and managing large-scale system integrations.
