Senior Director Engineering, Data Engineering . Analytics About The Role At Razorpay, data is not a support function—it’s a core product enabler.

We’re looking for a Senior Director – Data who can operate at the intersection of platform, product, and intelligence—someone who can build, scale, and own the entire data ecosystem across Data Engineering, and Analytics.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll be expected to think like an architect, act like a builder, and lead like an owner. The candidate should be comfortable dawning multiple hats at the same time, and willing to roll up their sleeves, when needed.

What You’ll Do
Own the Data Vision

  • • Define and drive a unified data strategy aligned with Razorpay’s product and business goals.

  • • Build a roadmap that connects Data Platforms → Analytical Platforms → Business . Product outcomes.

  • • Bring a strong POV on how Data Platforms can power analytical, product and business decisions, and help unlock revenue, reduce risk, and improve customer experience.

  • Build . Scale the Data Platform

  • • Architect and scale a real-time, reliable, and self-serve data platform.

  • • Own the full data lifecycle: Ingestion → Processing → Storage → Consumption

  • • Drive systems that are: Highly available, fault-tolerant, and low-latency

  • • Set the gold standard for: Data quality, governance, observability, and access.

  • • Think of a long-term strategy to make our Data Systems future ready especially for Agentic Workloads.

  • Enable Data-Driven Culture

  • • Build a best-in-class analytics function that powers decision-making across teams.

  • • Enable self-serve data for product, business, and ops teams with a platform first mindset.

  • • Define and standardize north-star metrics and KPIs along with the product leaders that the analytics team can monitor, measure, and track.

  • • Drive a culture where every decision is backed by data, not intuition alone. Lead Like an Owner of the function and not just an executor.

  • • Build and mentor a high-caliber team across DE, and Analytics.

  • • Hire aggressively for talent density over headcount.

  • • Operate with a high ownership mindset—you build it, you run it.

  • • Create future leaders, not just strong individual contributors.

  • Collaborate Deeply

  • • Work closely with Product, Engineering, Risk, Finance, and Business teams.

  • • Translate ambiguous problems into structured data solutions.

  • • Bring customer-first thinking into every data system built.

  • Raise the Bar on Execution

  • • Drive speed with quality—ship fast, iterate faster.

  • • Set up strong mechanisms for: Incident management, RCA and reliability improvements.

  • • Track impact through clear, outcome-driven metrics.

  • Experience What We’re Looking For

  • • 15–18 years across Data Engineering / Analytics at large scale.

  • • 5. years leading large, high-performing teams.

  • • Proven experience in building data platforms and analytical systems that power the business.

  • Technical Depth

  • • Strong hands-on experience with: Big Data Stack (Spark, Kafka, Hive, Trino, Flink), Cloud (AWS/GCP).

  • • Deep expertise in modern data stack — lakehouse architectures (Iceberg, Delta Lake), cloud data warehouses (Clickhouse, Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake), and orchestration (Airflow, Dagster).

  • • Streaming . real-time systems — Kafka, Flink, or Spark Streaming; understanding of CDC patterns and event-driven architectures.

  • • Infrastructure-as-code, cost optimization, and platform SLAs at scale.

  • • Strong grasp of data modeling — dimensional, lake vs. warehouse patterns, medallion architecture.

  • • Experience with ETL/ELT pipelines, data quality frameworks, and metadata/lineage tooling.

  • • Familiarity with catalog and semantic layer tooling (dbt, Atlan, DataHub, OpenMetadata)

  • • Ability to define and govern metrics — semantic layers, self-service analytics platforms, and KPI standardization.

  • • Experience with BI tooling (Tableau, Looker, Superset) and driving adoption across business stakeholders

  • • Data security, access control (FGAC, Lake Formation, column-level security), and regulatory compliance (GDPR, DPDPA in India context)

  • • Data contract and SLA management across producer/consumer teams

  • Leadership-Adjacent Technical Depth

  • • Ability to evaluate build vs. buy decisions, conduct architecture reviews, and set multi-year platform roadmaps.

  • • Enough hands-on grounding to credibly engage with staff/principal engineers on technical trade-offs.
