Job Summary :

We are looking for a Director of Engineering (Frontend) to own and scale our React Native (mobile) and React (web) platforms. This role will lead frontend architecture, engineering excellence, delivery execution, and team growth across mobile and web products used by millions of users.

You will work closely with Product, Design, Backend, DevOps, and Data teams to deliver fast, reliable, and scalable consumer-facing applications.

Key Responsibilities :

Frontend Platform Ownership :

- Own end-to-end frontend engineering strategy across React Native (Android & iOS) and React (Web).

- Define shared design systems, component libraries, and frontend standards.

- Drive convergence where applicable (monorepos, shared logic, tooling).

Architecture & Technical Excellence :

- Define and evolve frontend and mobile architecture for scalability and performance.

- Lead decisions on state management (Redux Toolkit, RTK Query, React Query, etc.).

- Drive performance optimization (bundle size, startup time, rendering efficiency).

- Ensure frontend security best practices, high-quality code reviews, testing, and documentation.

Team & Org Leadership :

- Build and manage multiple frontend teams (React & React Native).

- Hire, mentor, and grow Tech Leads, Staff, and Principal Engineers.

- Establish clear career paths, ownership models, and engineering rituals.

Delivery & Execution :

- Own delivery predictability, sprint planning, and execution quality.

- Partner with Product to translate business requirements into technical roadmaps.

- Balance velocity, quality, and long-term maintainability.

Developer Productivity & Platform Health :

- Drive CI/CD pipelines for mobile and web.

- Own tooling, linting, testing frameworks, and release processes.

- Improve developer velocity by reducing tech debt and improving tooling.

Cross-Functional Collaboration :

- Act as the primary frontend voice in architecture and leadership forums.

- Collaborate with Backend and Platform teams on APIs and contracts.

- Partner with Design to ensure consistent, high-quality UX across platforms.

Required Skills & Experience (Must-Have) :

- 12+ years of engineering experience with deep frontend expertise.

- Strong hands-on experience with React and React Native at scale.

- Proven experience leading large frontend/mobile teams.

- Strong understanding of browser internals, mobile performance, and rendering.

- Experience building design systems and reusable component platforms.

- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Good to Have :

- Experience with Next.js, SSR, and SEO optimization.

- Exposure to native mobile development (Kotlin/Swift).

- Experience with monorepo tooling (Nx, Turborepo).

- Familiarity with feature flags, experimentation, and analytics.

- Background in consumer, marketplace, or on-demand platforms.

Success Metrics :

- Frontend performance (Web Vitals, app startup time, crash-free users).

- Release cadence and delivery predictability.

- Engineering quality and reduction in frontend tech debt.

- Team retention, growth, and engagement.

- App store ratings and frontend NPS improvements.
