About the Role

Overview The Office Android Shared Team develops and maintains shared components and experiences for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on Android, delivering best-in-class user experiences, enabling next-generation collaboration, and ensuring business-critical reliability for millions of users.

This role provides the opportunity to design and implement high-performance, scalable, and intuitive features, strengthen core fundamentals, incorporate the latest mobile innovations, and drive AI-powered advancements across the Office suite.

We are seeking a
Principal Engineering Manager to lead a dynamic mobile engineering team dedicated to Android experiences for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This leadership position is essential for fostering engineering excellence, enhancing platform fundamentals, supporting emerging device form factors, and reimagining shared surfaces for the AI era within Microsoft’s mobile productivity suite. The successful candidate will help shape the future of mobile productivity in the AI-first world, collaborating closely with product, design, and partner teams across global locations.

Responsibilities

  • • Lead a team of 8. engineers to design, architect and drive implementation of large-scale experience spanning multiple systems and groups.

  • • Provide technical guidance and design leadership to your team.

  • • Collaborate with global partner teams and disciplines to scope and deliver projects.

  • • Practice customer obsession to create great customer outcomes.

  • Qualifications Required Qualifications:

  • • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12. years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C.., C., Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • + OR equivalent experience.

  • • Proven ability to establish trusted, effective relationships across diverse sets of stakeholders.

  • • Track record of creating a culture of technical excellence and growing strong engineering teams.

  • • Ability to quickly pick up existing concepts and employ new techniques and strong problem solving.

  • • Mobile development experience in iOS and Android is desirable.

  • • Track record of delivering products, features and functionality on time, with extremely high quality.

  • • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.

  • • Great verbal and written communication skills and ability to work cross- team in collaborative environment.

  • Other Requirements
    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • • 4. years of experience managing engineering teams.

  • • Expertise in C/C.., Java / Kotlin is a highly desirable.

  • • Experience with productivity or enterprise-grade mobile applications.

  • • Familiarity with accessibility, localization, and internationalization.

  • • Proven track record of shipping high-quality apps at scale.

  • • Experience in experimentation and using data science to analyse product telemetry.
