About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and oversee AI/ML systems, pipelines, and application platforms for enterprise and engineering use cases.

• Set engineering standards and guide technical decisions around model selection, system architecture, infrastructure, observability, security, evaluation, and lifecycle management.

• Provide hands-on technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, mentoring, and execution guidance for a small AI engineering team.

• Lead the design and implementation of applications using Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agentic systems, enterprise connectors, and workflow orchestration.

• Translate business and engineering needs into practical AI architectures and phased delivery roadmaps.

• Drive the full lifecycle of AI applications from research and prototyping through evaluation, production deployment, and operational support.

• Ensure AI solutions are explainable, reliable, secure, and aligned with regulatory expectations and internal governance policies.

• Work closely with data engineering, software engineering, IT, and business teams to ensure high-quality, well-governed data availability for AI applications.

• Stay current with advances in AI/ML, evaluate new techniques and frameworks, and drive pragmatic adoption using secure, cloud-native or hybrid architectures.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• 14. years of experience in software engineering, AI engineering, or ML systems, with at least 4. years in LLM / Generative AI application development.

• Strong hands-on experience with at least 2 or more skills Python, Pyspark, React, Node.js, Flask

• Proven experience architecting and delivering production-grade AI applications.

• Strong understanding of Transformer architecture, embeddings, prompt design, model steering, hallucination mitigation, context management, structured outputs, and limitations of current LLM reasoning and behavior.

• Experience with RAG, agentic workflows, tool integrations, backend service design, and evaluation methods.

• Experience with frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, Phidata, OpenAI-compatible APIs, or similar ecosystems.

• Experience building backend services and APIs using FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks.

• Experience with vector databases and retrieval systems such as FAISS, Qdrant, OpenSearch, Pinecone, or Weaviate.

• Strong understanding of enterprise security, privacy, safe AI design, access control, prompt injection risks, and governance.

• Demonstrated ability to lead technical decisions and mentor engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with open-source model ecosystems, model serving, and deployment optimization.

• Exposure to fine-tuning, adapters, or domain customization techniques.

• Experience designing evaluation frameworks, benchmarks, guardrails, and quality measurement processes.

• Experience with supervised and unsupervised machine learning models.

• Exposure to engineering, industrial, manufacturing, photonics, or other deep-technical domains.

• Prior experience leading or mentoring a small technical team.

Working Conditions

• The work mode of Finisar India is Hybrid i.e. 3 days at office.
