About the Role

Role Overview:
You will be leading the Security Operations (SecOps) team at Canonical, managing the design, implementation, and evolution of security practices, techniques, tools, systems, and policies. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the security and integrity of Canonical's data, internal infrastructure, and build processes. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the security posture of all Ubuntu customers and users against cyber attacks. As a key figure in the cyber security domain, you will collaborate with various teams within Canonical to develop playbooks, facilitate training sessions, and integrate security insights into the software development process. Your mission extends beyond securing Canonical to contributing to the broader open source ecosystem through knowledge sharing and threat intelligence initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • • Hire and mentor a team of technical security professionals

  • • Define and uphold Canonical's SecOps security standards and playbooks

  • • Lead the architecture and design of the Security Operations Center (SOC)

  • • Analyze and enhance Canonical's security architecture

  • • Evaluate, select, and implement new security tools and practices

  • • Identify, contain, and guide remediation of security threats and cyber attacks

  • • Enhance Canonical's thought leadership in SecOps practices

  • • Contribute to open source threat intelligence initiatives

  • • Drive various SecOps practices across Engineering, IS, and Canonical

  • • Develop SecOps learning and development materials

  • • Publish informative content such as blog posts, whitepapers, and conference presentations

  • • Establish and monitor SecOps Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • • Plan and execute SecOps work within Canonical's agile engineering framework

  • • Collaborate with Security leadership to influence change through presentations
  • Qualifications Required:

  • • Proven experience in mitigating advanced threat actors and nation state threats

  • • Expertise in SOC operations, architecture, and design including logging, firewalls, network segmentation, and honeypots

  • • Proficiency in Linux security

  • • Ability to define, implement, automate, and measure incident response playbooks

  • • Familiarity with security architecture, market-leading security tools, and threat intelligence feeds

  • • Experience with security risk management frameworks like NIST CSF

  • • Strong academic background in Computer Science or STEM fields

  • • Demonstrated drive, motivation, and commitment to technology security

  • • Leadership and management skills

  • • Excellent written and presentation skills in business English
