About the Role

ind.ai is India's AI identity and agent network. A platform that enables individuals and businesses to claim unique handles, create and run their own teams of AI agents, and operate within a trusted, verified, interoperable ecosystem.

We're also building domain-specific agent products on top of it:

Vakil.ai — AI-native legal agents for intake, guidance, drafting, routing, and trusted legal workflows.

Medicly.ai — AI-native healthcare agents for intake, triage, records, follow-up, and clinic-facing workflows.

I'm hiring a
founding engineer to help build ind.ai as the core agent platform and support the products built on top of it.

This is not a generic dev role. And it's not a pure IC role either.

You'd start as a hands-on, independent builder, owning large parts of the stack. As the team grows, you'd step into a CTO role, shaping engineering culture, hiring, and technical direction. I'm looking for someone who's comfortable doing both, and who understands that the first version of the job is mostly building, and the second version is mostly leading.

Meaningful equity / ESOP is on the table for the right fit. This is a co-building role, not a services gig.

What you'd be building:

• Core backend systems, APIs, databases, auth, and deployment

• Agent identity, handles, and account architecture

• Multi-agent orchestration, routing, and workflows

• Tool use, memory, permissions, and approvals

• Tenant/business-specific agent configuration

• Observability, reliability, and production systems for agent workflows

• Guardrails and escalation layers for high-trust products in legal and healthcare

What I'm looking for:

• 4. years in software engineering, with strong backend fundamentals

• 2. years hands-on with AI/LLM-powered products in production (not just prototypes or hackathon demos)

• Strong in TypeScript / Node.js

• Deep experience with backend architecture, APIs, databases, auth, deployment

• Hands-on with AI agents, prompting, tool use, memory, orchestration, workflows

• Has productionised LLM-powered or agent-powered systems

• Familiarity with open-source agent frameworks (OpenClaw, NanoClaw, Paperclip, CrewAI, or similar), less about using them in production, more about understanding the architecture

• Works fast with Cursor / Claude Code or similar tools

• Has opinions about how to build reliable, scalable agent infrastructure

What makes this different from a typical founding engineer role:

• You'd have a clear path to CTO as we scale

• You'd influence product and architecture decisions from day one, not just execute

• You'd be working across a platform and multiple products, not a single feature surface

• The domains (legal, healthcare, identity, fintech) are high-trust, high-stakes, and genuinely interesting

Big plus if you've worked on high-trust products in legal, healthcare, fintech, identity, or similar domains .

A lot of the current product has been vibe coded to move fast. I need someone who can take that and turn it into serious, scalable infrastructure, and eventually build the team that maintains it.

Apply with:

• What you've built and shipped

• Your AI / agent systems experience

• Links / GitHub

• Current location / employment scenario / notice period

• Why this kind of role appeals to you
