The Big Data team at Walmart is responsible for building and managing large-scale data processing and analytics platforms that power the company’s data-driven initiatives. We empower a unified ecosystem for developing data products, ML/Ops, and AI/Ops, unlocking actionable insights from Walmart’s data at scale across multiple cloud platforms.

What you'll do:
Strategic Leadership: By setting the technical vision and roadmap for Big Data Offerings, the director ensures the platform evolves to meet Walmart’s growing data needs, supporting innovation and business agility.
Platform Excellence: The director can elevate the reliability, scalability, and security of Big Data Offerings.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: By partnering with, business leaders, and engineering teams, the director fosters a culture of data-driven decision-making and ensures Big Data Offerings aligns with enterprise goals.
Talent Development: The director shapes a high-performing engineering team, mentoring talent, promoting best practices, and driving a culture of continuous improvement.
Business Impact: Ultimately, the director’s leadership enables Walmart to unlock more value from its data, accelerate analytics and AI initiatives, and maintain high standards for data integrity, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Role’s scope and responsibilities are as follows
Provides technical oversight of AI integration across platforms using languages such as Python, Java, Rust, and Dart. o Integrates AI agents for search, automation, and decision support using frameworks and tools.
Cross-Functional Collaboration . Roadmap Alignment: o Manages engineering dependencies and project execution across multiple products and services. o Ensures roadmap and milestone alignment with broader organizational priorities through effective stakeholder management and coordination. o Leverages generative AI tools (for example, ChatGPT) for program planning, risk mitigation, and reporting optimization.
Technical Ownership: o Demonstrates responsibility for deliverables, ensuring solutions meet quality standards and business objectives. o Takes initiative to resolve issues and drive projects to completion.
What you'll bring:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area.
More than 15 years of experience in software engineering, 5. years of leadership/management experience as a Manager of Managers and Principal/Staff Engineers with team size of 20..
A good understanding of CS Fundamentals, Microservices, Agentic AI, Data Structures, Algorithms . Problem Solving.
Hands on experience working with Java, Python, Kafka, Big Data technologies like Spark, Hive, Airflow, Trino, Druid and Pinot etc.
Deep working knowledge of all aspects of Cloud native distributed system development: Azure/ GCP/ WCNP preferred.
Experience managing software development engineers, leaders, architects and leading engineering projects, guiding engineering teams on engineering excellence; solid system design.
Experience partnering with cross-functional project development and in collaborating with other scrum teams, QA, Release Management, Program Management, and TechOps
