Director of Engineering

About the Role :

- We are looking for a startup- aggressive Director of Engineering to lead and build our AI- powered accounting platform, TalkingTotals.ai.

- This is not a passive leadership role. You will be responsible for end- to- end ownership from architecture and coding to hiring, scaling teams, and driving execution.

- You should be highly adaptable, deeply technical, and comfortable working across backend, frontend, mobile, and infrastructure. You must be able to move fast, make decisions under ambiguity, and build systems that scale.

Key Responsibilities :

Technical & Architectural Leadership :

- Own system architecture across backend, frontend, mobile, and infrastructure

- Design scalable, resilient, and high- performance systems

- Make technology decisions based on evolving product and business needs

- Ensure engineering best practices across code quality, security, and performance

Hands- on Engineering :

- Write production- grade code (primarily Python, but open to any tech stack)

- Review code and set engineering standards

- Build APIs, data pipelines, and AI- driven systems

- Quickly prototype and iterate in a fast- moving startup environment

DevOps &Platform Ownership :

- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines

- Implement observability (logging, monitoring, tracing)

- Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure)

- Ensure system reliability, scalability, and uptime

Team Leadership & Scaling :

- Hire, mentor, and grow a high- performance engineering team

- Build a strong ownership- driven engineering culture

- Define processes without slowing down execution

- Align engineering output with business priorities

Product & Execution :

- Work closely with founders/product to translate ideas into execution

- Own delivery timelines and outcomes

- Drive rapid iteration and continuous improvement

- Balance speed with quality in a startup environment
